Where Were You Born
The grass was there—swaying in the wind, moved by other forces, touched by faint light. The wind strengthens. Thick grey clouds cover the sky, hiding what happens above. They foretell the heavy rain to come. What will happen next? One senses an unobserved change in the world yet to come. In that moment, a passing car crossed the view.

Arrival
A few seconds before life emerges—before words, before narrative—light begins to form a contour, wavering as it draws near. At the moment of arrival, what can be known, and what will remain unknowable? This is the threshold where the unshaped turns toward form, the tremor of a beginning, the breath before life learns to speak. Using a camera obscura–inspired approach to real landscapes, the work captures the uncharted expanse that lies before the birth of narrative.

Air
There stood a dried plant. Air warmed over the ocean thousands of kilometers away had risen, setting in motion winds born of pressure differences. Crossing the sea, the flow traveled through the upper atmosphere, several kilometers above, before descending, guided by terrain and temperature shifts. The dry wind swayed the plant, which always returned to its place. In the darkness, lights of human life glowed, and in front of them the silhouette of the withered stem emerged. However strong the wind, its fibrous body held its ground—until, in a brief moment, a passing car crossed the scene.

Profile

Hayato Yamada is a Kansai-based filmmaker creating visual poems that explore layers of time and subtle shifts in light, wind, and vibration. Founder of SCIRE, he directs projects from shooting to editing and exhibition design. Through documentary and commercial film, he has conducted numerous interviews with people from diverse nationalities and professions. These encounters draw his attention to the space between what is spoken and what remains unsaid—where changeable, acquired traits meet deeply embedded, unyielding elements. He examines how these elements resonate with and shape social change.
