The fourth festival in 2025 will be held as an international art festival that will play a role in connecting the Osaka-Kansai Expo with the Osaka area, and will be implemented as an "art festival that studies the relationship between art, people, and society" through domestic and international art projects, and will hold exhibitions composed of six chapters at each venue with the theme of "social impact."

What is Speculative Music/New Storytelling?

Sakuma Yoji and others who worked on "Expanding Music" and "Music Being Together," which have attracted a total of 5,000 visitors since the last art festival, suggest that "storytelling, which brings about behavioral change in society, is one of the important values of art." In this program, a group of works that delve into speculative art that will bring about behavioral change among young people in Osaka toward a better future, together with those who lead internet culture, will be exhibited in the Umekita area.

Following on from the previous Study: Osaka Kansai International Art Festival vol.3, "Expanding Music," and "Music Being Together," held in Toranomon, Tokyo last year, "Speculative Music" will be held as part of the special exhibition series. In both exhibitions, the main artists are creators active on the Internet. As instant stimuli, beginning with the rise of short videos, sweep through society, contemporary art is losing its influence on young people and the general public. In such an era, the creators of Internet music continue to exert creative influence. We have held these exhibitions with the belief that designing entertainment that promotes awareness and behavioral change in society will be a new value of art. The main festival, the 2025 Osaka Kansai International Art Festival, will focus on their storytelling power and have them create art as an engine for humanity to create a better future, and will be held at various venues including LUCUA and Osaka Station City.

◼︎Work introduction

⚫︎April-May "Aino Musica" (sekai x Haraguchi Sasuke)

"AinoMujika" work images

The beginning of "Aino Musica" by Sekai and Haraguchi Sasuke, which was performed at "Music Together" at the end of last year, will be shown exclusively on signage.
This is part of an installation work that makes one think about the difference in presence between music with love (AI) created by humans and music created by AI (AI).

Title of work: "Aino Musica"
What does the "presence" of music mean to you? "AINOMUJIKA" offers an experience that deeply evokes the feeling of being with music and explores how the presence of music is determined. Through the difference between generative AI and human creation, it invites viewers to reconsider how music resonates and elicits emotions, while creating a space for viewers to compare their own choices with others. By listening to two musical works and considering which one evokes a stronger sense of "being with" you will come into contact with the emotional connection that music has and the essence of creation.

⚫︎May-June "Harmonious Vacuum" (x0o0x_ x Sakuma Hiroshi)

"Harmonious Vacuum" artwork image

The beginning of "Harmonious Vacuum" by x0o0x_ and Sakuma Hiroshi, which was performed at "Music Together" at the end of last year, is currently being shown exclusively on signage.
It is part of an installation piece that, like Stanislaw Lem's "Perfect Vacuum," gives the impression of a musical presence surrounded by non-existence.

Title of work: "Harmonious Vacuum"
Is the presence of music shaped by what is not there? What are we hearing and feeling?
"Harmonious Vacuum" by virtual being researcher Sakuma Hiroshi has sold over 100,000 copies, and the song "The Day Ending with the Sea" written for this book by popular Vocaloid producer x0o0x_ has sold over a million copies. At the 2025 Osaka-Kansai Expo, a compilation album in collaboration with popular artists, "Harmonious Vacuum," will be released! At this exhibition, the crossfades of "The Day Ending with the Sea feat. sekai" and eight other songs will be released for the first time.

*The content will change for a limited time. In addition, the "Speculative Music/New Storytelling" art exhibition is scheduled to be held at Lucua Osaka in September 2025.
*The currently available works are available for a limited time until the end of June. After that, new works will be released one after another.
*Future participating artists and their works will be announced in due course.
