What is the Science Art Award?
Science art is a method of expression that uses a wide range of scientific fields, such as physics, chemistry, AI, and space, to convey the complexity of science through art.
Bioart is an art form that uses living things such as cells, plants, and microorganisms, as well as life science technology, to express the aspects of "life" and "nature" that we tend to overlook from a new perspective.
The "Study: Science Art Award" is looking for works that will convey the mysteries of science and life, and their connections to social issues in an easy-to-understand way to many people through bioart and science art, and encourage learning and awareness. Let's deliver new perspectives and values born from the intersection of art and science to society together.

Background of this award
We believe that the fusion of art and science is not merely a means of expression; it has the potential to address social issues and contribute to the creation of our future society.
This art festival will be held in conjunction with the Osaka-Kansai Expo in 2025. The Science Art Award will have the theme of "reintegrating fragmented wisdom," and will aim to discover the creativity that will lead the next generation and disseminate it to society.
In recent years, cutting-edge fields such as AI and biotechnology have evolved rapidly, but how to connect these technologies to society remains an important issue. This award is an attempt to use the power of scientific and technological expression to present a new perspective for reconnecting technology and humans, cities and nature, and the past and future.
We aim to create a future in Osaka and the Kansai region where science and art are part of everyday life and where creative culture takes root and develops.
This award marks the first step towards that goal, and we look forward to the participation of all those who take on the challenge.
Expectations from the judges
Akira Tatehata (poet/art critic)

"We look forward to seeing unique ideas that go beyond the boundaries of existing media and art."
Mr. Juichi Yamagiwa (Director, Institute of Global Environmental Studies)

"Art appeared in the human world as something that cannot be resolved by the logic created by words, something that transcends logic. It embodies the history of humankind's dialogue with the universe throughout its evolutionary history spanning seven million years. Furthermore, as a form different from nature, it is sought to be a creation that foreshadows the future. As living beings with a foothold on this earth, and as subjects that think beyond the limits of the planet, I have great expectations to see what artistic challenges will unfold."
Daisuke Suzuki (General Producer of the Osaka Kansai International Arts Festival)

"By reintegrating art and science, and the fragmented world of knowledge, we hope to see works that offer a vision of the future and raise questions about social issues.
We welcome applications from a wide range of people, including not only artists but also scientists, business people, and others."
