Santissimi
Italy
The Sardinian artist duo Sara Renzetti(1978-, Italy) and Antonello Serra(1977-, Italy), also known as Santissimi, explore themes of mortality and bodily transformation. The Latin title of the work, IN VIVO (M1), translates directly to ""being in life,"" but is primarily used in medical and scientific contexts, referring to observations or experiments conducted on a living organism. The life-sized silicone sculpture stands upright and rigid, with closed eyes, encased in a plexiglass box. Yet the stillness of the body is deceptive—the glass panels appear to be misted by its breath. Are we witnessing the preservation of the human body for the future—sustaining it in life? Or could this even suggest an awakening, a reanimation?
