Sam Jinks
Australia
Born in 1973, Australian artist Sam Jinks first worked as an illustrator and it was while in the film industry that he discovered sculpting with silicone and latex. His hyper-realistic representations of bodies, created using clay moulding and silicone pouring, achieve an almost mind-blowing naturalism. The figures are rendered at a scale of less than 1:1, which, in addition to the delicacy of their skin, enhances the impression of fragility in his work. Like Ron Mueck, Jinks' work is also concerned with the stages through which life passes, birth and death, but also with its transience.
