Jacques Verduyn
Belgium
Born in 1946, Verduyn studied painting at the Academies of Fine Arts in Bruges and Aalst before studying sculpture at the National School of Fine Arts in Ghent (Belgium). At the heart of his work are human figures in all their expressions, depicted in a hyper-realistic way. The Belgian painter brilliantly captures everyday moments, such as tying shoelaces (Les Souliersbleus, 1974) or sunbathing with bent legs on a kitchen table (Transistor Girl, 1973-74), and highlights their microscopic narrative. As a pioneer of the first generation of the hyperrealist movement, he also participated in the historically poignant exhibition "Hyperréalisme" in 1973. He participated in the exhibition "Maîtres américains et européens" by Belgian gallerist Issy Brachot, where the term hyperrealism was first coined.
