HATA Yoshio
Photographer and video producer
Born in Kyoto in 1950, he lives in Osaka. He produced the photo work Miracle Forest EXPO '70 on the theme of "Expo Forest" (a biodiverse forest revived by artificial power on the site of the 1970 Osaka Expo), and also produced an AI video predicting the future 50 years from now. He has also published a photo book through Brain Center and held solo exhibitions at The Third Gallery Aya and kanzan gallery. His photo work HANAKO (1990), which depicts the life of a modified chicken on the theme of artificial organisms, was invited to the Rotterdam Photo Biennale (1992) and held a solo exhibition. His works are held in the collections of the National Museum of Modern Art, Kyoto, the Museum of Modern Art, Wakayama, the Schiedam Municipal Museum of Art, and private collections. In parallel with his work as a photographer, he produced Tomatsu Shomei's photo work Sakura Sakura Sakura as a photo book and exhibition. He was in charge of production direction and exhibition production for Yamazawa Eiko's photo work What I am doing. He has also produced cultural projects (such as the Hanahaku Museum of Photography and IMI Graduate School Courses), and is currently the Director of the Osaka International Media Library and General Director of the Photographic Expression University & E-School, where he is also involved in developing media education curricula.

In addition to producing many artists as a producer for marimoRECORDS, he is also active as an electro unit FILTERKYODAI. At the same time, he also works on a number of commercial music, movie soundtracks, and car sound designs. In October 2020, he released the world's first high-resolution ambisonic album, "PIANO Pieces." In 2023, he exhibited a 3D sound installation work at Setagaya ALL DAY GALLERY with the art installation unit RIKOHS. In recent years, he has collaborated with HP, Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation, and others to develop art works using AI technology. He is also a part-time lecturer at Kwansei Gakuin University and a visiting professor at Senzoku Gakuen College of Music, and his books include "Starting Home Mastering with DAW" (Rittor Music). This book has been translated into Chinese and has been reprinted many times. He also serves as a director of JSPA (Japan Synthesizer Professional Arts), and cooperates with various companies in developing synthesizers and holds synthesizer workshops for children across the country.

He joined Tokyo Broadcasting System (TBS) in 1998. In the sports department, he served as director and producer for world championships such as the Olympics, the World Athletics Championships, and the World Volleyball Championships. He has also produced many sports documentaries. After leaving the company in 2008, he founded Marimo Records with his brother. The company started a music and video production company centered on digital workflow. They have worked on many promotional projects for Fujifilm, Sony, Toyota, and others. For the opening of Expo City, they edited archive footage from the 1970 World Expo. They also produced the AI experimental video "Catching the Wind" and AI footage for Miracle Forest EXPO '70. They have created art works using AI technology with Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation and others. He began teaching at Rikkyo University in 2018, and currently teaches as a visiting professor at Senzoku Gakuen University of Music.
