Approximately 80 galleries from Japan and abroad will gather together. A variety of programs exploring the relationship between society and art will also be held at the same time.

The Osaka Kansai International Art Festival Executive Committee (within ARTLOGUE Co., Ltd.) will co-host the "Study × PLAS: Asia Art Fair" with the Korean visual art fair "PLAS" from July 21st (Mon., holiday) to July 23rd (Wed.), 2025 at the Osaka Prefectural International Conference Center (Grand Cube Osaka), designed by Kisho Kurokawa.

"Study × PLAS: Asia Art Fair" was organized to commemorate the 60th anniversary of the normalization of diplomatic relations between Japan and Korea, and to promote active exchanges between the art markets of Japan, Korea, and Asia.

This art fair will be held together with "Study x PLAS: Galleries," which will feature about 80 galleries and organizations from eight regions, mainly in Asia, "Study x PLAS: Selections," a collaboration project with artists exhibiting at this art festival and various organizations, as well as symposiums and creative business contests. The Tenjin Festival will be held in Osaka during the same week, making it a week not to be missed.

■About "Study × PLAS: Asia Art Fair"

This fair is an international arts event commemorating the 60th anniversary of the normalization of diplomatic relations between Japan and South Korea, and aims to promote future-oriented cultural and artistic exchange and develop the creative economy throughout Asia.

Junwon Shin, director of the fair and representative of SEOUL PLAS, said, "We hope that this Osaka exhibition will go beyond being just an overseas advancement, and become a symbolic venue for Korea and Japan to exchange sensibilities and aesthetic experiences through art. It will create a new trend in the art market."

 

Three Features of "Study × PLAS: Asia Art Fair"

Feature 1: Approximately 80 galleries and organizations from 8 regions, both domestically and internationally, mainly in Asia, will participate . A wide variety of artists and galleries from around the world, including Japan, Korea, China, Taiwan, Indonesia, and other Asian countries and regions, as well as France and Switzerland, will gather on the 3rd and 10th floors. Works that combine diverse perspectives and expressions will be exhibited and sold.

Feature 2: Works available for purchase! Collaboration projects with various organizations will be held
On the 10th floor, we will hold a collaboration project called "Study x PLAS: Selections" with various organizations to exhibit and sell works by 16 artists exhibiting at this art festival, as well as Korean actor and painter Ha Ji-won, and artists from Osaka, such as Daido Moriyama and Ellie Omiya.

Feature 3: Programs held every day that explore the relationship between creativity and society from a multi-layered perspective 
A variety of programs will be held with an art-based focus, including a Science Art Award, a Creative Business Contest, and an interdisciplinary international symposium, all of which explore the relationship between creativity and society from a variety of perspectives.

*Study×PLAS Asia Art Fair has been certified by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs as a "60th Anniversary of the Normalization of Diplomatic Relations between Japan and South Korea" project.

■Exhibition contents

Study x PLAS: Galleries (3rd floor)

A diverse range of artists from around the world, including Japan, Korea, China, Taiwan, Indonesia and other Asian countries, as well as Switzerland and France, will be gathered together in 62 galleries to exhibit and sell a wide variety of art works.

- Keumsan Gallery (Seoul, Korea)

A representative Korean gallery that opened in 1992. Exhibiting artists include Kim Suhyun, Kim Hyuna, Mooa, Yun Pilhyun, and Hannah Kim.

A contemporary art gallery that discovers and supports artists from home and abroad. Artists scheduled to participate include Kim Youngjoo, Jung Dawoon, and Choi Giwon.

The museum will hold numerous special exhibitions showcasing modern and contemporary Korean art from various angles. Kim Chan-jung and Lee Yerim are scheduled to participate as exhibiting artists.

He opened his gallery in Ginza, Tokyo in 1983. He has curated and coordinated many Korean and Japanese art exhibitions other than Gallery Q. He has exhibited at the "3rd Gwangju Biennale" (2000), "11&11 Korea Japan" (2002) at Seongkol Museum of Art, "10th Busan Biennale Japan Side" (2016) at Busan Museum of Art, "Cheongju International Craft Biennale" (2023) in Cheongju, South Korea, and "Jeonnam International Ink Painting Biennale" (2025) in Mokpo, South Korea.

- CHUWA Gallery (Tokyo, Japan)

Since its establishment in 2000, the gallery has focused on abstract expressionism by contemporary Japanese artists, while also showcasing contemporary art from Asia, including Bangladesh and Korea, and in recent years has been recognized as a base for artists with disabilities. The gallery has continued to show its carefully selected trends and quality to this day, with over 200 exhibitions in total.

- YONDE ART (Lausanne, Switzerland)

Based in Switzerland, the group has been working since 2018 to promote talented European artists in Asia, focusing mainly on artists from Guadeloupe, a French overseas territory in the Caribbean. This time, in addition to four artists living in Guadeloupe, they will also be presenting one artist from France and one artist from Spain.

 

- Connected Art Platform (CAP)/Art & Bali (Indonesia)

Connected Art Platform (CAP) is a curation platform established with the aim of supporting art in Indonesia and promoting international exchange, and is also the organizer of the "J Art Award," which is seen as a gateway to success for young artists. This time, they will be coming to Japan with works from Indonesia that will be shown for the first time.

- SBS STUDIO (Indonesia)

In addition to the production space, the facility also houses the exhibition space GALLERY SBS, which regularly holds exhibitions. The facility is also actively involved in social and community activities, and functions as a place where local residents can gather to hold discussions, workshops, and community programs.

Study x PLAS: Selections (10th floor)

The exhibition will feature a special exhibition by Ha Ji-won, who is both an actor and a painter, an exhibition of works by the art studio "EMISSION" led by Takahiro Matsuo, "Study:Artists" by 16 groups of artists participating in the art festival, and a "Special Japan-Korea Exhibition" by Japanese and Korean artists. In addition, the exhibition will explore the connection between art and society through a variety of projects, including the "NIIZAWA Art Lounge" which combines sake and contemporary art, and an exhibition by winners of the Science Art Award.

 

- Ha Ji-won Special Exhibition

Ha Ji-won, who is active as both an actor and an artist, has constructed a world of work that crosses painting, installation and plastic expression based on her long experience of communicating with the public, her inner experiences and her visual senses.
This special exhibition focuses on artist Ha Ji-won's recent works, and is comprised of visual pieces that explore the themes of "figuration of emotions" and "sculptural responses to personal memories."

This exhibition, which is the first of its kind to be organized as a standalone project at an overseas art fair, is also attracting attention for presenting a new style of dialogue in contemporary art that harmonizes star quality and artistry.

- EMISSION supported by BAG-Brillia Art Gallery

EMISSION is an art studio led by Takahiro Matsuo, a light artist who is in charge of the Shiga Prefecture booth at the Kansai Pavilion at the Osaka Expo. This exhibition, supported by Tokyo Tatemono's art hub BAG-Brillia Art Gallery, which focuses on lifestyle and art, will feature artwork on the theme of "crystallization of light."

EMISSION

 

- Study x PLAS: NIIZAWA Art Lounge

Since 2015, Niizawa Brewery has been running the art project "NIIZAWA Prize by ARTLOGUE," which uses label designs by contemporary artists for its sake "NIIZAWA" and "NIIZAWA KIZASHI," and uses a portion of the proceeds to promote culture and the arts. This lounge will also feature the "Omiya Ellie Flowers" exhibition, which displays works by the first (2015) artist, Tetsuro Kano, and the 2022 artist Ellie Omiya, who passed away in April this year, on the walls, as well as an exhibition of Expo commemorative bottles created in collaboration with Teppei Kaneuji.

- Korea × Japan: Special Exhibition Japan-Korea Special Exhibition

One of the main events of the fair is the "Japan-Korea Exchange Special Exhibition," which features a total of 10 artists, five from Korea and five from Japan, and is structured as an exhibition that goes beyond simple exhibition cooperation and aims to foster an intersection of the contemporary art sensibilities of the two countries.
The exhibition is being prepared with the participation of two curators from Korea and Japan, led by Dalseung HWANG, former president of the Korea Art Gallery Association, and Yoshitaro Sakagami, former director of the Itami Museum of Art, and with a focus on balance and aesthetic tension.

Tiffany Bouelle, who has Japanese and French roots, creates drawings, spatial presentations, and three-dimensional works based on words she has gained from her experiences in life, such as traveling and childbirth. After working as a stylist in the fashion industry, she expanded her activities as an artist, presenting works characterized by abstract expression that are also related to the calligraphy art influenced by her Japanese grandfather, who was a poet.

 

- Study × PLAS Meeting: "Art & Impact, Where are we (the Earth) Going"

This is a satellite talk event for the symposium "Study × PLAS Meeting: Art & Impact - Where are we (the Earth) Going", which tackles global issues through transdisciplinary discussions that cross different fields such as art, science, technology, and anthropology.

At Indonesia Day on the 21st, art experts from both Japan and Indonesia will unravel the latest information about Indonesia's unknown art scene, introducing it from a perspective that has never been discussed before.

- Art & the City : Matsubara (10th floor)

Study: We will introduce the activities of Matsubara City, a partner city of the Osaka Kansai International Art Festival 2025.
Matsubara City is promoting the revitalization of the region by incorporating street culture and art through the Osaka-Kansai Expo and skateboarding. Matsubara City held a collaboration event with Study on June 21, 2025, as part of the Matsubara Lantern Festival, a commemorative event for the 70th anniversary of the establishment of the city.

 

- Study x PLAS: Media Cafe (10th floor)

Study: Introducing domestic and international media partners working with the Osaka Kansai International Arts Festival. In addition to being available as a rest area or meeting place, you can sample Indonesian coffee brand "CVOLA" coffee for four days only (while stocks last). Enjoy a moment of relaxation with art and a highly aromatic coffee from Indonesia.

 

Science Art Award Exhibition (10th floor)
Finalist Exhibition "Creating the Future through the Fusion of Science and Art"

"Study: Science Art Award Supported by ROHTO Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd." is calling for a wide range of exhibition plans that propose artistic expressions and science art that use the latest scientific and academic knowledge, such as technology and science. During the event, a "Finalist Exhibition" will be held, and the judges will inspect the exhibition and select the award winners.

Final Pitch & Award Ceremony (12th floor)

This is a business contest specializing in the creative economy * , with the aim of developing the culture, arts, and leisure industry, which can solve social issues across sectors. It seeks new business approaches in the culture, arts, and leisure industry, maximizes the appeal of culture and the arts in Japan, and contributes to the realization of sustainable development.

What is "PLAS"?

PLAS holds an art fair at COEX that specializes in plastic arts such as sculpture, glass, media art, installations, and paintings. PLAS's signature exhibit, the "Large Sculpture Special Exhibition," installs large-scale plastic works that could previously only be seen outdoors inside the venue, providing visitors with a powerful viewing experience. This has established the fair as the largest plastic arts fair in Korea. PLAS also plans fresh spatial compositions and a variety of special exhibitions with unique themes every year, with the aim of contributing to the development of Korean art and popularizing plastic arts.
