Jamie Salmon

UK/Canada

Born in 1971, Jamie Salmon learned his craft from his first jobs in the film industry. His work, laborious and detailed down to the smallest of inflections, gives the viewer a realistic impression of a living body. To break away from the aesthetics of the real, Salmon chooses to expose body parts, torsos and the surface of the skin. By drawing attention to the materials he uses - synthetic resin, silicone, rubber, fabrics and real human hair - and by leaving gaps and potentially damaged areas in his work, he enhances the impression of the unreal, which is part of the real world, and invites us to rethink how we perceive reality.
