Where I Vanish — Reflections at the Edge of Reality

This sculpture questions the essence of “seeing,” drawing viewers to theboundary between reality and illusion. From a distance, its form is clear, yet asone approaches, their gaze shifts to their own reflection, making the sculpture vanish. This suggests that reality is shaped by perception rather than objectivity.
Interacting with light and space, the sculpture constantly transforms with time. Its simple, single-line outline, both familiar and elusive, conceals a profound depth of existence. In this interplay of presence and absence, it quietly asks:
──What are you truly seeing?

Profile

The masked artist DONECY creates works that shake the very foundations of “seeing,” dismantling and reconstructing the boundaries between vision and perception. At the 2025 Osaka Expo, DONECY will unveil Where I Vanish, both the artist’s first public art piece and first three-dimensional work. While its form is clearly discernible from afar, approaching it draws your gaze to your own reflection in its mirrored surface, causing the sculpture itself to vanish. Within its simple, single-line outline lies the paradox of “seeing,” inviting viewers into the space between presence and absence.
DONECY’s works act not upon the viewer’s perspective, but on their “unconscious.” The instant you attempt to see it, it has already disappeared.
