Robert Graham
Mexico
Born in 1938, died in 2008. Working in California in the 1960s, Graham began making small wax figures housed in plexiglass boxes. In the 1970s, he began casting bronze sculptures, which became increasingly figurative and highly naturalistic. Apart from a number of large monuments and drawings, his work consists mainly of smaller-than-life-size bronze sculptures of women, which appear almost human. His work repeatedly examines the relationship between viewer and sculpture, between voyeurism and inaccessibility.
