Profile
Born in Kyoto in 1978. Associate professor of sculpture at Kyoto City University of Arts. He collects existing things, events, and images, and creates works using a collage-like method of reconstruction. His works are diverse, including sculpture, painting, video, photography, and performance, and he consistently pursues the development of a system of modeling that reveals the relationship between materials and images.
Solo exhibitions include “Chelfitsch x Teppei Kaneuji Eraser Forest” (21st Century Museum of Contemporary Art, Kanazawa, 2020), “Teppei Kaneuji's Mercator Membrane” (Genro Inokuma Museum of Contemporary Art, Marukan City, 2016), “Quadric Liquid, Metallic Memory” (Kyoto Art Center, 2014), “Towering Something (Ullens Center for Contemporary Art, 2013) and “Melting City, White White Forest” (Yokohama Bijutsu, 2009), as well as numerous stage art and book design. He has also worked as a stage designer for the Aru Spot Project “I can't understand you like a house electrician” (2011), KYOTO EXPERIMENT 2019 Chelfitsch x Tohei Sugawara, “Eraser Forest” (2019), Chelfitsch x Tohei Sugawara, “Eraser Forest” (21st Century Museum of Contemporary Art, Tokyo, 2020). He also directed “tower (THEATER)” (Rohm Theater Kyoto South Hall, Kyoto Experiment 2017), a stage adaptation of his own video work.
